Staying productive in the workplace can be hard, especially when it’s summertime and you’re working with your best friends. Lucky for you, our Chief Strategy Office (CSO), Sabena is sharing her 5 tips to staying productive at the workplace that might give you just the inspiration you need when you’re at work, but your mind is already thinking about those Labor Day Weekend Plans.
Eat Breakfast
If you start your day off on an empty stomach, chances are that you’ll probably find yourself feeling distracted very quickly. Personally, I don’t think a carb-heavy breakfast is beneficial to anyone, because gluten can make you incredibly productive. Having proteins like turkey sausage, egg whites, or even a hearty smoothie can give you the energy you need to last you (if you do it correctly), the whole day.

Always keep a to-do list
When it doubt, map it out. Plan out your day with a to-do list so that you can have something tangible to hold yourself accountable to. I start every day off with a to-do list for the day so I can make sure that I’m staying on track of all of my work and upcoming projects. When I’ve got a lot on my plate, keeping a to-do list allows me to organize my tasks by priority so I know what’s truly pressing versus something that’s more a long-term project.
Get Up
It’s incredibly important to stay active during the day, even if it’s just a 5-minute walk around the office. When you’re bound to your desk all day, chances are you’ll find yourself being less productive, and it can also lead to mental and health consequences. I like to keep a Fitbit or some sort of alert on my phone to remind me to get up and walk around for a few minutes a day to keep my blood flow in my legs active and stay motivated.
Drink Water
The moments where you find yourself getting distracted in the workplace might not be you having a lack of motivation, you might just be dehydrated. Drinking water throughout the day will give your mind the energy it needs to focus on your tasks, no matter how complicated they may be. While you’re in the midst of trying to stay productive and accomplishing all of your tasks for the day, keep a water thermos at your desk—lucky for you, we’ve got some great ones on build a BOXFOX.
Take Breaks
I cannot stress this one enough. Taking breaks is so important for your productivity to give your mind a break from a particular task. It doesn’t necessarily mean driving to Starbucks for an hour after having already taken a lunch break, it just means that you need to give yourself a short period to focus on something else. If I’m working on a project such as a client proposal and I feel myself getting distracted after some time, I might switch over to a product research brainstorm to give my mind a break from one project and work on another.
