Park City, Utah is a key ski and snowboard destination for Los Angeles locals (an early morning flight has you on the slopes by noon!), so we were thrilled when a certain friendaversary found us in Park City over the weekend. Once an old silver mining hot spot, Park City capitalized on the up and coming enthusiasm for winter sports and transformed itself into a ski resort town in the 60’s with the opening of Treasure Mountain (now Park City Mountain Resort). Now with two other amazing mountain resorts, fantastic restaurants and even nicer people, Park City also hosts Sundance, the largest independent film festival in the world. Luckily, our trip happened to coincide with Sundance 2015 so there was even more events and activities to be a part of, as if a day of skiing and friend time wasn’t enough.
In the spirit of jet setting, we’ve put together our guide to the perfect winter weekend in Park City and some fun things to look out for next time you’re in the beautiful mountain town!
COOL PERKS OF SUNDANCE:
Acura + Uber. Acura and Uber partnered up once again to offer free VIP rides all over town. We were lucky enough to be selected and were extremely grateful to be driven home in a brand new (and warm) Acura MDX. Thank god we instagrammed enough and got their attention.
SLOPES:
There’s no beating Deer Valley, although PCMR & Canyons are great too. PCMR is so easily accessible by the Park City’s free bus and offers a good mix of green, blue and black diamond runs. Canyons is beautiful, wide open and has the most breathtaking view from the Gondola that takes you to the main lifts.
STAY:
MONTAGE – This recently built luxurious abode is right in the middle of Deer Valley’s ski resort. Designed as an American craftsmen meets refined mountain getaway, this resort boasts ski-in/ski-out and year round indoor and outdoor pools. The amenities are endless (think bowling alley). It’s not even fair how beautiful it is and it more than guarantees an A-list celebrity sighting.
AIRBNB – The selection of rentals in Park City on airbnb has just kept getting better and better! There are plenty of gorgeous homes with great amenities that offer the perfect setting for a mountain getaway. Most even have ski-in/ski-out access, which is a huge convenience. Next time we’re back and we aren’t being hosted by a local, this is definitely the route we’re taking.
APRES:
STEIN ERIKSEN – Named for former alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist, Stein Eriksen, this Scandinavian style lodge boasts one of the best views in town. From 3-5:30p during the season, you can ski right off the mountain and right into a couple of beers.
STELLA ARTOIS LOUNGE – Each year during Sundance, the Town Lift is transformed into the Village at the Lift, located at the PCMR Town Lift right on Main St. With great beer, and even greater people watching, Stella hosts a happy hour every afternoon from 4-7p.
EAT:
RIVER HORSE ON MAIN – There’s no meal like the meal eaten after a day on the slopes. And there’s no meal on Main quite like River Horse.
DAVANZA’S – located on Park Ave right behind Main St. We stumbled into Davanza’s looking for warmth and sustenance. We found both, grubbing on a giant pizza in a room filled with vintage Park City posters, old photos and thousands of beer cans lining the walls.
DRINK:
NO NAME SALOON – We won’t spill our secret on cutting the line, but this bar, located in the middle of Main St., is perfect for a couple drinks with friends. Downstairs is indoors and upstairs has a loft and outdoor balcony. Our favorite part? The stone bench out front that looks like a normal stone bench but is actually the perfect heated spot for some ample people watching.
