The Little Market is a fair trade shop with the mission of connecting artisans around the world with consumers via their online store. We were so excited to partner with this nonprofit and help support their mission, as well as bring their amazing handmade, artisan products to all of you. We had the pleasure of interviewing Hannah Skvarla, co-founder of The Little Market, and ask her a little bit about how she got her start.

When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I have always wanted to do something to give back. I didn’t always know what that would look like.
What has been your biggest lesson in starting your own business?
Don’t let the fear of failure stop you. Use it to motivate you to work harder and do your best.
What about The Little Market are you most proud of?
I’m really proud of the impact we have made for women around the world. Through our purchases, we are able to generate much-needed income and preserve culture. In fact, some of the groups we work with have even been able to grow their teams because of our purchases. We work really hard on every product we develop to showcase the artisans’ skills. We are very grateful to each and every one of our customers for their support.
What is your life motto right now?
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” - Maya Angelou
What's the number one item on your bucket list?
I would love to go to Madagascar.
What inspires you?
Women supporting women. My girlfriends include mothers, activists, entrepreneurs, activists, and artists who support each other. Our team of mostly women at The Little Market is dedicated to helping women around the world rise above poverty. When we work together for a common goal, anything is possible.
Who has influenced you the most to get where you are today?
My time with Human Rights Watch (HRW) has made a huge impact on me. HRW is a global nonprofit organization that operates in 90 countries. They conduct research to investigate and expose human rights abuses and use advocacy to create change. They are voices for people who often don’t have a voice, and they shine light on the parts of the world that need it the most.
