Common Gifting Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

Posted by BOXFOX TEAM on

Here at BOXFOX, we're kind of a big deal. When it comes to gifting, that is. In our four years in the corporate gifting business, we've seen it all, from last-minute gifting woes to swag bags that are anything but "swaggy".

So we're here to help make sure you don't make these common gifting mistakes with some great solutions!

Waiting until the last minute

This is #1 on the list for a reason. The most common mistake our clients make is waiting until the last minute. While we do consider ourselves miracle workers when it comes to gifting, last-minute deadlines often mean product substitutions or rush fees. And of course, lots of stress.

Lucky for you, we are already taking holiday orders! Simply e-mail concierge@shopboxfox.com to request a catalog. Our typical turn-around time is about 3 weeks from the time we receive payment, and getting the ball rolling sooner rather than later is always recommended to ensure you have the best access to product and can rest easy knowing your beautiful gifting suite is in motion.

Not knowing your audience

We've all gotten a gift we are just sure wasn't meant for us. It can feel impersonal or sometimes, downright offensive. Luckily, at BOXFOX, "regifting" is not in our vocabulary, because we are experts at knowing our recipients and have endless ability to source products we know will be perfect for any kind of recipient.

Which is where you come in: gathering info about and narrowing down your audience is a great place to start when you want to start brainstorming gifting. The more information you can let us know about your recipients, the better! We tailor your proposal exactly for you, and knowing your audience is key. For example, your holiday gifts could be going to a variety of audiences: fun-loving millennials, high-level executives, bootstrap start-up techies…you name it! At BOXFOX, we understand that one size definitely does not fit all, and we are here to make all you custom curated wishes come true.

Staying in a silo

A silo you say? What's that? A silo is fancy lingo for internalizing and not connecting with outside teams to ensure that your gifting suite is as comprehensive as possible.

To that end, it's important to connect with colleagues or higher-ups to make sure your messaging and branding is cohesive and on point. What if there's an initiate another team wants you to highlight in the collateral or curation? Or a prospecting list they have been meaning to make contact with?

It's essential to loop your colleagues in on any gifting suite to join forces and make it a huge success, across departments!

Too much branding

We’ve all seen it - that kitschy swag bag filled with branded plastic sunglasses, mousepad, plastic water bottle, lanyard...

At BOXFOX, we strive to strike the perfect balance between an elevated, luxury gifting experience with the right touch of professional branding that reflects your business in the most refined way possible. It's why we have developed a suite of customization that are subtle yet pack a branded punch.

Whether that’s a custom box band, card, sticker, collateral insert, or colored ribbon, we can add personalized elements to your gifts without it being too overpowering. And if it's essential that you brand some or all of the products within your curation, we keep things tasteful, so that coffee mug will be displayed proudly on the kitchen counter, not in the trash.

Not giving them an experience

Our gifting philosophy at BOXFOX is centered around experience-driven gifting. This works in two ways -- one is thinking about how the recipient will feel when they first open a BOXFOX, between the right mix of products, color palette, and more. And the other is how they will actually use the products in their day-to-day life.

Because of this lens, we encourage our clients to not make the mistake of not giving more thought to a particular theme, which lends itself to an experience. A bag of popcorn, a scented candle, a wine opener, and some socks may seem like just an assortment of products, but really, it's a movie night in a BOXFOX! So give some thought to the theme you'd like to communicate with your gifting suite. We're happy to make your gifting dreams come true.
