Happy Diwali From BOXFOX!

Happy Diwali From BOXFOX!

Growing up Hindu, Diwali was a big deal in our family. I fondly remember my mom making sweet halwa (a hot pudding-like dessert made of ghee, sugar, flour, and golden raisins) and relatives and friends gathering together, wearing bright, glittering Indian outfits to celebrate.

But my favorite aspect is what the holiday represents — why Diwali is known as the festival of lights. Families fill their houses with lit candles (known as diyas), turn on all the lights, and open all the widows. This tradition symbolizes letting in the light, leaving no room for darkness — celebrating the triumph of good over evil.

This year, the holiday falls on Saturday, November 14. Although I won’t be celebrating in the way I typically do, I’m excited to be sharing one of our favorite holidays with all of you. We’ve put together a curated selection of brightly colored sweets, treats, and home goods (including candles!) to let you send a BOXFOX and share a little piece of this spiritual tradition with loved ones.

I think we can all agree that in a year with a lot of darkness, Diwali feels more relevant than ever. So join me in lighting a candle to let the light in. Happy (socially distant) Diwali!
