Hustle // Adult Back To School

Posted by Hayley Murach on

After your summer vacation, your summer Fridays, and your early afternoon happy hours, it's hard to get back into the grind of work. Whether you're preparing to take a hard statistics class, to apply to graduate schools, or to revamp your work supplies, you're not alone. The back-to-school season is upon us, Foxes!

Let's read about how BOXFOX's founders prepare themselves to take September head on!

Growing up, what was your favorite back to school memory?

Sabena // My favorite back to school memory was school supply shopping. No joke. I loved going to McWhorter’s (does anyone remember that store?! #tbt) and looking at all the gel pens and pretty notebooks. Target was amazing too- I could literally spend hours there trying to color coordinate my stationary. I guess not much has changed since I still go crazy over all of the paper goods we carry.

Here’s me before the first day of first grade I think? My mom was totally into the whole preppy look….Kind of wish I still had this outfit in my size because I probably would wear that for Halloween if I wanted to be Cher from Clueless!

Now that you are an adult and a co-founder of the amazing BOXFOX inc., how do you get yourself ready to take on the new work year?

Sabena // For me, it’s all about taking time away from the day-to-day pace of work and recharging and re-energizing that gets me ready to take on the new work year. There’s a reason you come up with your best ideas in the shower because that’s the one place you’re truly relaxed and away from it all. I try to give myself that time in the form of a vacation or even just a weekend away. It’s all about interrupted “brain off” time that actually leads to the best kind of big picture ideas. When you come back, you just can’t wait to get started, which is such an amazing feeling.

What is your next level essential that helps you keep hustling through out the work weeks?

Sabena // Hands down, my favorite next-level essential is Well Kept Wipes. I have some sitting on my desk right now and some in my purse, too. I find that with clean devices (and a clean space, of course), I can literally take on anything!

Growing up, what was your favorite back to school memory?

Chelsea // I loved back to school shopping, do not get me wrong, but my favorite back to school memory was always seeing everyone after summer vacation. Our generation didn't have significant social media influence until late, late into high school, so your really got a chance to go away, come back, try (and fail) to reinvent yourself every summer, and tell all your "crazy" vacation and camp stories. You missed your friends so much, kids these days have no idea how exciting it was to be together again.

Now that you are an adult and a co-founder of the amazing BOXFOX inc., how do you get yourself ready to take on the new work year?

Chelsea // September is an important month to me and always felt like a fresh start. I loved back to school, the "new season" even though it wasn't really Fall in Los Angeles (ever), and the fact that it's my birthday at the end of the month. Because of that, I like to use September as an opportunity to reset my priorities and goals!

What is your next level essential that helps you keep hustling through out the work weeks?

Chelsea // I'm obsessed with Drybar Triple Sec. I keep one in my bag at all times and one on my desk. Look good, feel good, and work hard. High school me would have stashed a ton around campus.

Growing up, what was your favorite back to school memory?

Jenni //  I loved getting all new school supplies, and still do! There’s nothing like starting a brand new notebook with fresh juicy pens. I would fill my planner with everyone’s birthdays and color code my notebooks by class so I felt prepped and ready to take on the new year.

Jenni // I still go back to school shopping and I still start a new planner, but now I have a little more than just my best friends birthdays to pen in!

What is your next level essential that helps you keep hustling through out the work weeks?

Jenni // Le pens! I’ve always liked writing everything out, and that means I usually have about 5 different notebooks and several planners going at once (daily to-dos, weekly to-dos, my general notebook, I know I’m crazy). I love infusing lots of color into all of my notes and lists because I’m really visual - the color helps me keep track of everything. Le pens are a huge must-have for me!
