Girl bosses unite! On Saturday, February 10th, a group of empowered female leaders, including our own Chelsea Moore, joined forces at the 2018 USC Own It Summit. This organization, run by students, focuses on building relationships between undergraduates with female leaders across all industries. Their mission is to “bridge the gap between female leaders of the 21st century and the millennials who admire them by shaking up the women’s leadership arena and producing game-changing opportunities for college-age women”.
The Summit is a yearly event hosted by women for women, featuring a collection of successful and empowering females across all industries, from all walks of life. BoxFox friends, Alli Webb of Drybar and Jen Gotch of Ban.do, were among the many ‘Startup Superwomen’ who headlined the event. Each individual speaker at the summit had her own unique story to share and an original take on being a woman in her industry.
One of our major takeaways of the event included the Own It Core Values. These values (leadership, accessibility, diversity, and feminism) align with our own here at BoxFox and represent what we strive for everyday in and out of the office.
Our Co-Founder and CEO, Chelsea Moore, participated in a breakout panel, From Idea to Startup, with 3 other amazing female entrepreneurs. Her counterparts were Lauren McGoodwin (Founder and CEO of Career Contessa), Erica Stanulis (Founder of Follow the Sun), and Erika Jensen (Co-Founder of the Flex Company). They shared stories about what it’s like to be an entrepreneur and how they came to be one in the first place.
Chelsea gave her insights on being a successful business owner and spoke about her experience with starting her own company almost immediately out of college. She talked about the challenges she overcame in the beginning stages of BoxFox, including gaining the confidence to be her own boss. One of Chelsea’s main points is that she wouldn’t be here today without her co-founders, Sabena and Jenni. The panel concluded with tons of questions from hopeful entrepreneurs eager to learn more about starting their own companies.
