Even though we launched the site with themed (precurated) options only, Build a BOXFOX was our dream from the start and has since become our baby.
The best part of BUILD is that no two gifts ever have to be the same, because no two relationships are the same.
I always start with one “staple” item that reminds me of the person I’m gifting and then go from there. A pro tip: I keep a note on my phone of things my friends/family mention wanting, needing, or liking, so when it comes time to gift, I can be as thoughtful as I want to be (especially because my memory isn’t my best friend).
So, maybe I’ll pick a passport holder because a friend is planning a trip this year, or a Canvas Home mug because she finally took the plunge and started working for herself.
Then, I’ll build a thematic gift from there. Passport holder? Let’s add a guidebook, some earplugs, a Carry on Cocktail kit, and some cozy plane socks. Voila. Boss mug? They’ll definitely need to fill that with coffee…sealed with a brass spoon and a new notebook and pens to match.
The last step is always checking that the gift has something to enjoy right away. We’re all about utility at BOXFOX, so every piece of the gift should have a purpose—even the treats. A new job themed BOXFOX? Donuts and Coffee Compartes bar. Newly engaged? Sugarfina gummy champagne bubbles.
The best part is always crafting the message. Our selection of cards almost speaks for itself, but of course, the handwritten note really keeps things personal and ties the thought behind the gift together for the ultimate “you shouldn’t have.”
